Case History: Marine Ecological Surveys
Ltd. was commissioned to carry out a full appraisal of
environmental resources in the vicinity of a proposed major chemical
complex to be constructed on the east coast of Peninsula Malaysia. By
working closely with the Malaysian Department of the Environment, the
company drew up detailed terms of reference for identifying those
environmental resources requiring protection in the vicinity of the
development. It was also able to interact closely with the client on
specific measures to reduce the risk of environmental damage after
construction of the plant. The client was required to operate to high
standards to meet regulatory requirements and to comply with parent
company policy: also to ensure project approval with minimum delay.
Following commissioning of the plant, Marine Ecological Surveys Ltd. was
retained to carry out twice-yearly audits. The subsequent performance of
the plant was of such a standard that the client was awarded the
prestigious Malaysian "Better Environment Award" for excellence in the
Chemical Industry Sector.
